Being an entrepreneurial woman can be challenging when sexist attitudes color your career.
My podcast guest, Diane Gilman discussed two challenges she faced as a woman in business.
Those challenges were sexism and ageism.
She seemed to always be searching for the perfect male partner who would recognize her talent; fund her in her business; and appreciate her method of designing to get there. She realized in the end that she could only depend on herself.
Interestingly enough she never thought to look to powerful females to help her in her journey. Though, at the time there were not a lot of them. She admits that she reversed the sexism and looked at men as being the leaders and those were the people she thought she needed help from and the support to take her talents to the next level in their company.

It wasn’t until she was over 50 that she gave up that fantasy and with hardly any money to back herself launched a clothing line and grew that business to almost $100,000,000! Her advise, don’t wait for someone else, depend on yourself to at least get it started. Deal with starting with less and grow it to your best potential. Make your own decisions and go for it.

Ageism – no one outlasts you when you put your mind to it. Age is just a number. When you believe in yourself, your age shouldn’t stop you. Don’t let others press your off button.
