I am not old by any stretch of the imagination but I want those sliding shelves.” My guest Heidi Huynh told me about sliding shelves that can help with not having to bend over and dig in lower cupboards. She shared lots of ways to adapt your home for aging. She made a good point to make a change before aging forces you to learn a new way. She gave an example of purchasing your next dining set with chairs that have arms. The arms can assist you in getting out of the chair. The last thing you want to do is buy a new dining set only to have to replace it 3 years later due to your physical abilities changing. Heidi spoke about the physical adaptations you can make to your home as well as the mental challenges you may face. You can slowly implement the adaptations you may need. She encourages clients to consider where they want to age and whether will they have assistance to help with daily tasks. She reiterated to maybe make the move before your abilities force you to. Or maybe you simply want to be around others in the same stage of life as you – assistance needed or not. At the end of the day, just think ahead and if you want the sliding shelves now…why not? Install them!
