Kristen Williams

Executive Director – riverzedgeARTS

Kristen serves as Executive Director at riverzedgeARTS. Trained as a theatre practitioner and an academic, she has been by turns a director and playwright, a published poet, and a college professor. She holds degrees in Theatre, English, and American Studies from Rhode Island College, the University of Toronto, and the University of Maryland, College Park. Coming of age in the do-it-yourself punk rock scenes of Providence and northern Rhode Island, Kristen believes strongly in the power of creativity to draw out and amplify the unique strengths of people, landscapes, and cultures to produce powerful and healthy communities. In her free time, she is an avid reader, gardener, and amateur furniture-builder, and is never happier than when she is trailing behind her dog on a hike in the woods.

Who says you have to sit on your front lawn and watch the days pass once you have retired? Most medical professionals say to stay active.  Kristen Williams, with riverzedgeArts, suggested multiple ways to get involved. She also shared what it means to be a part of a task force, a committee, and the board.

Volunteering for a non-profit is a great way to stay active and add value to your life and legacy. It feels great to contribute to something you are passionate about that aligns with your values too.  Finances are needed but so are helpful hands.  Who knows you may even find a new friend or two.  Volunteering lends to a sense of community, people who can relate to you.
