What Does Your Ideal Life Look Like?

I remember the first time someone asked me that. I thought, how would I know?! I’m certainly not sure if this is it or not because I’ve only ever lived this life. I, like most people, forgot how to dream. Remember what that was like? All the things we thought we would do when we grew up? What happened to those dreams and that dreamer?

I remember the first time someone asked me that. I thought, how would I know?! I’m certainly not sure if this is it or not because I’ve only ever lived this life. I, like most people, forgot how to dream. Remember what that was like? All the things we thought we would do when we grew up? What happened to those dreams and that dreamer?

When Did I Stop Dreaming?

I know that the adults around me as I grew up were just trying to keep me safe and help to mold me into a responsible adult, but have you ever wondered how different your life would be if instead of hearing, “Don’t do that, you’ll get hurt!” or “You can’t do that because….(you fill in the blank).” I had a grandfather who would consistently tell me that I could do anything I set my mind to. That definitely made a difference in my life. Because of that, I was able to start to take risks. I owned my own “real” business when I was just 17. I opened Country Crafts. A little boutique that sold not only the supplies for knitting, crocheting and cross stitch but some finished goods as well. I got the Entrepreneurship bug!

But, I also grew up with things like, “We can’t afford that” or “That is for other people, not for people like us.” Those were a reflection of where we happened to be at that moment, not a lifetime, but that mentality kept most of my family in that space. It even kept me there for a while. My dreams went from being uber successful with an international client base, to working as a bookkeeper in a law firm. I even went so far as to get my BS in Accounting and working for an international accounting firm while raising my daughter.

How Long Will You Stay Put?

I plodded along in and out of relationships and staying just on the side of success but not wildly successful. Because, well, “You have to work HARD for your money.” Another saying that I grew up with that I recently realized wasn’t serving me. I never gave myself credit for anything that came “easy”. It took 6 decades before I realized that the Universe, God, or Higher Power made us to be extraordinary, not ordinary. We were not born to just pass time in life and accept whatever came our way. We were born with free will and the ability to dream and DREAM BIG! If it doesn’t scare the daylights out of you…. IT ISN’T BIG ENOUGH! What is the worst that can happen if you reach for your dreams and you don’t get there?

I decided to dream even bigger, to take a leap with no safety net and go after those dreams. I sold my International CPA firm and charted my course to help millions of people around the world and make a positive impact on them. To help make them feel better about themselves, to help them to look and feel their best and to help them create the life of their dreams. Don’t settle for what others expect for you. Don’t even settle for what you think is the best you can do. Push yourself to be more, live more and make the greatest impact. You can do it. I know you can. I believe in you. Even if you don’t reach your biggest dream, I bet you will have had the experience of a lifetime and learned valuable lessons along the way that you can utilize and share with others. You can pick yourself up and start again – only this time you will be armed with even more knowledge and skills than the first time you tried.

Don’t hesitate. You’ve got this!
